Shared mailbox send as not working

Users were added as shared mailbox members using Office 3Admin centre. We have domains in the same tenancy and have on many occasions set a shared mailbox to be accessed by a mailbox in the other domain. We use office 3and we sync our local AD groups with Azure AD in the cloud. For some reason on different mailboxes, permissions are not working when a user tries to send. User cannot send on behalf of a shared mailbox.

When I send new messages from the shared mailbox , the default address is my own address, not the shared mailbox address and I need to select the shared mailbox as From address. Other accounts default to using their own address. You do not have the permission to send the message on behalf of the specified users.

So if I move the shared mailbox to O36 that user SHOULD be able to ‘ send as’ the shared mailbox ? The shared mailbox properties still show this user in the full access and send as list. You are not allowed to send as this user. I have been added as a delegate with editor permissions in shared mailbox. It should be visible as if the mail is sent from shared mailbox. Specifically, we want to be able to have any messages that are Sent As the shared mailbox to.

We have only ever controlled shared mailbox access via security group. Add users to security group. Grant security group full and send -as permissions to the shared mailbox. Create the security group.


You can also use the shared mailbox as a shared team calendar. A shared mailbox is not designed for direct log on though. The user account for the shared mailbox itself should stay in. This work-around is not supported by Microsoft at all at this point.

They are working on a more manageable solution, but there is no ETA for that right now. Send -on-Behalf-of permissions.
